Why Called-Ones and Called&Chosen-Ones Differ in Tenure in God’s Service?

INTRODUCTION

In what way are people called and subsequently chosen? And why are people called but not chosen? In a nutshell, the called-ones have shorter tenure in the service of God than the called-and-chosen-ones whose service lasts until the Vision of God (Rev 21:3) is attained.

The popular called-and-chosen badge for the people of God cannot be more fully understood without knowing about the fact that there are people who are merely treated as called-ones but as much regarded servants of God as the called-and-chosen-ones. They only differ in duration in their engagements in the work.

Primary examples for those who were merely called as “called-ones” with short term of service to God include John, the Baptist and Virgin Mary and Daniel (Dan 12:8-9).

John’s job ended when Christ was baptized. Virgin Mary ended her responsibility of tending Christ after He was baptized during which God declared, ““This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (Matt 3:17, NIV). That reality was observed even when Jesus was still twelve years old (Luke 2:49).  How Jesus retorted was the offshoot of what He learned from His foster father Joseph, from the line of David, that He is the Son-to-be of God in every sense of the word.

Why did God preferred the line of David His Son to be born into? What is “line?” More soon on this >>

MARY WAS SURROGATE MOTHER OF JESUS

When Christ reminded Virgin Mary about Him being the Son of God (John 2:4, NIV), He made it clear that He was without human connection (Hebrews 7:3, NIV), whatsoever, including blood line.

MIGRATION FROM CALLED TO CHOSEN

The people of God are selects from the general populace as called-ones for a purpose. But in due time, God would further do the selection from the called-ones, and so, “For many are called, but few are chosen” (Matthew 22:14) for a more specialized work.

One example for people who are called-and-chosen were the two disciples of John, the Baptist (John 1:35-42) who migrated from being mere called-one to chosen-one.

The selection of the few, particularly referring to the chosen-ones, is not about their selection just to be saved, but for a purpose, that is to help save the rest of Mankind, otherwise known as “the Great Harvest,” (Luke 10:2, NIV). These select few are the firstfruits (James 1:18, NIV).  People in agricultural endeavors can understand these things fully well (Nehemiah 10:35, NIV).

It so happened that the few are necessary to be saved first to enable them the service of saving the rest of Mankind behind Christ. In a sense, they are the firstfruits with Christ, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1Peter 2:9, NIV).

In the case of the chosen-few, these people are actually the Church of God found the world over, unidentifiable, doing holy acts and deeds they perform without themselves knowing. Why? Because their works are spiritual in nature only God knows them and what they do. And so, when told soon about what they did in the time of reckoning, they shall ask in utter innocence:

“. . . ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’” (Matthew 25:37-39).

  • Unlike the called-and-chosen-ones, the called-ones have limited understanding like Prophet Daniel (Dan 12:8-9; 13); John, the Baptist (Luke 7:18-28); Virgin Mary (Matt 12:47-50).

  The MAN of Isaiah 53

“ . . . . hath no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.  He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:2-5, ASV).
